What is the best way to keep my skin young ?

The first step in any skin care routine should be ‘Protection’

UV rays of the sun is the No. 1 cause of breakdown of collagen in the skin. Collagen keeps our skin young looking. Spending money on advanced serums and creams wont help if the basic step of 'Protection' isnt done.

Use a good quality sunscreen with protection from both UV-A and UV-B rays of the sun. PA rating system is used for UV-A rays and SPF system is used for UV-B rays. Go for SPF50 and PA+++ rated sunscreens in India as its very hot in most places.

The second step is use reduce ROS in the skin

ROS stands for Reactive Oxygen Species

Collagen in the skin is produced by cells called fibroblasts. Due to normal aging process, UV rays of the sun and air pollution, ROS is produced in our skin. ROS damages the fibroblasts and reduces their ability to produce collagen. Overtime fibroblasts stop producing collagen altogether.

In India, where air pollution is high and AQI in most cities remains around 400, it significantly affects our skin health

A serum which has good quality anti-oxidants will reduce the amount of ROS in skin.

At Qivi, besides using Green Tea and Resveratrol we are also using NMN and NR which have shown great promise in reducing ROS.

The third step is Repair.

Retinols have over 30 years of clinical data supporting their skin repair benefits and is the fastest way to repair aged skin.

Retinol helps the fibroblasts in increasing collagen production and reduce fine lines. Retinol also increases the number of fibroblasts in the skin which produce collagen. Use a retinol based serum at night time for best results to restore your skin.

Qivi Retinol Serum is formulated to take care of Step 2 and Step 3 in a single serum and make is easier for you to apply at night time.

Why do you use Grape seed Oil as the main carrier oil in all your serums?

Grape Seed Oil has the highest Omega-6 fatty acid content among all carrier oils. Our bodies cant produce Omega-6 oils on their own. People with oily skin generally have lower levels of Omega-6 oils in their skin, essentially making their skin oils thicker and more prone to “clogging the pores”. Since most ppl have oily skin in India, its best to have atleast 30% Omega-6 acid in the formulation.

Why have you added NMN to your Retinol Serum andVitamin C Brightening Serum ?

NMN is a form of Vitamin B3 which is very effective in reducing ROS (Radical Oxygen Species) and Melanin Production. NMN is a upcoming superstar ingredient based on a number of studies being undertaken across the world both for topical use as well as for ingestion. NMN is used by some of the top brands of USA in their skincare formulations

Some of the important NMN studies and articles are listed below

1. Nicotinamide mononucleotide reduces melanin production in aged melanocytes by inhibiting cAMP/Wnt signalling
